Since Azhar Hussain initiated “electric-bike-racing” in 2008, and got the first TTXGP event together for 2009, this has been an active area of interest for engineers, designers and sportspeople. Kingston University’s faculty of engineering have been very busy, see http://engineering.kingston.ac.uk/motorsport/index.htm . They will come and talk to us about their activities (names to be advised).
Note:
This event had been planned for September, however, they’ve been invited at short notice to exhibit at the Low Carbon Vehicle show on the 15th and 16th September (www.cenex.co.uk/events/lcv-2010) |
Meeting report 17th November 2010
Paul Brandon heads up a motorsport section at Kingston University – see http://engineering.kingston.ac.uk/motorsport which is very active in the area of electric bikes (lots of video clips on this site). Amongst many projects, they design, test and develop a competitive electric racing bike which takes part in the electric bike racing series. Paul manages the course, delivers lectures , supervises projects and also sources sponsorship for the various projects - there are some interesting projects on this site, including electric bike drag racing.
We were very pleased to have Don Howard a student in this department presenting his experieince on theTTXGP Bike Project and details of building his own electric bike.
In the inventors clinic Daniel Breen presented his “granted patent” – “boxer-balls” – see www.multi-ball.net – patents can be seen on www.ipo.gov.uk by searching under his name.
